NTDS Ethernet Converter: Cielo Solutions: Moving Systems Into The Future

Cielo Solutions, INC is the premier provider of Naval Tactical Data Systems (NTDS) to Ethernet conversion devices. Cielo Solution’s converters are based on field proven firmware that performs NTDS communications. Converters using this proven technology have been successfully deployed on several Navy ships and test sites. In addition to being very easy to use, the converter sets that standard by which NTDS conversion will be performed.

In addition to performing conversion from NTDS to Ethernet, the converter performs all of the low level operations that are required to maintain an interface. By performing, the NTDS protocol communications, the network application/user is free to concentrate on high level communications by sending and receiving data messages. Over fifteen NTDS interface protocols are available to support the most frequently used NTDS devices. Unique Protocols can also be developed and integrated for an additional fee.

The NTDS converter is provided in several form factors to support either a single or a multiple interface applications. Every converter can be configured, controlled, and updated by the user through the use of the configuration and control program. This capability allows an application to take full control of each converter and every channel in the converter. Since the converter is fully configurable, the user has complete control of the NTDS and network parameters. The converter is a turn key system that can be operational without user intervention.

The user may configure the converter to use either User Datagram Protocol (UDP), Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), or where it makes sense, Multicast communications. One instance where a Multicast solution might be used is to distribute navigation data provided by an Inertial Navigation System (INS). In addition to being able to select the packet type that is used for each interface, the user can also select the converter’s node address as well as the address and port that will be used to communicate with the network applications. The user may also configure the converter to act as either a server or client. All of these features are individually selectable for each NTDS interface as well as the controller interface.

Most applications require some sort of time synchronization when communicating with a NTDS device. The converter assists in solving this problem by providing two methods of time synchronization. If the application has a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server available, the user can configure the converter to use NTP synchronization. If a NTP server is not available, the converter can be configured to perform UDP time synchronization. When using the UDP time synchronization capability, the converter will act as a client time synchronizing to a network node.

In addition to an impressive capability of configuration and control of a converter, there are several diagnostic tools available to monitor both NTDS and network communications. There are also tools embedded into the converter to assist in isolating NTDS or network problems.

Regardless of the requirements, there is a Cielo Solutions converter that to satisfy any NTDS interfacing requirements. By using the converter, the user can concentrate on application design and development rather than NTDS communications.
